Top | | State Releases New Travel Economy Economic Impact Numbers
TourismOhio announced the latest industry economic impact numbers on Ohio Tourism Day. The state agency reported that the travel & tourism industry had the highest-ever impact on the economy measured in non-adjusted dollars in 2023. But inflation needs to be taken into account.
Recent Legislative Proposals Would Require Fee Disclosure and Curb Public Nuisance Lawsuits
HB 537 would require a supplier to include all mandatory fees and charges when from advertising, displaying, or offering a price for a good or service, but would create an unlevel playing field by exempting some industries. HB 555 would curtail the use of certain lawsuits brought against businesses related to products with potentially hazardous impacts.
Polling Shows Tipped Servers Vastly Oppose Efforts to Change Compensation
A survey shows that state employees who earn tips do not want to see changes to the current compensation system. The system allows employers to credit employees with tips, allowing employees to earn well over the minimum wage with their hourly wage plus tips.
