Description: The elegant 1873 Georgian Farmhouse once owned by Rutherford B. Hayes, was purchased in 1942 by Attorney Leonard P. Henderson and his wife Ferne, well known musician and singer of that era. The home was well know for entertaining guests like U.N. Ambassadors, and Diplomats. Other guests of note were Willie Mayes, Duke Ellington, Paul Roberson, and many others. The residence was passed to their daughter LeNora (Lee) Henderson-Johnson. Lee is a New York Designer who graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and is a former Fashion Model.
Lee opened Henderson House Bed & Breakfast on July 5, 1994. The reception has been outstanding and the guests have had many happy returns to the B&B, and have also referred others to our Inn. It has been described as, “ A perfect Oasis in the city,” by those who have stayed here.
Our first guests were the Broadway cast members performing in “The Phantom of the Opera”. They enjoyed the accommodations so much they returned a second time. The Henderson House B&B has hosted gatherings large and small. Wedding, bridal showers, luncheon, tea parties, club meetings, etc. We are a full service B&B.
The Historic Inn is situated on five beautiful acres of land with mature trees, flower beds with statues, conversation areas, a large lawn, secluded area with a 14’ Gazebo, and a patio area just steps away from ample off street parking. The interior is furnished with 19th Century family heirlooms. Some modern conveniences were added to the restored home, such as WIFI, so guests can enjoy 19th Century surrounding in 21st Century comfort. Adjacent to the home is a Coach House, that is updated with modern furnishings and conveniences as well as a private bath, phone, cable television, a full kitchen, private entrance, and deck.
We are located minutes from Ohio State University East, Easton Towne Center, Wolf Park Tennis Courts, Franklin Park Conservatory, as well as the Downtown Convention Center, Columbus Airport, theaters, restaurants, and The Brewery and Arena Districts.
Our guests are pampered from the moment they arrive. They are personally taken to one of the three lavishly decorated rooms. When you make your reservation we inquire as to your dietary restrictions, and any other special needs. Your gourmet breakfast is served in the formal dining room. Our service has impressed our guests and they do not hesitate to refer us. We wish to be your home away from home - your Oasis in the city - each time you come to Columbus.
As an added feature, we can also offer additional packages to enhance your stay. One of our most popular packages is the “Rest, Relaxation, and Rejuvenation” For an additional fee for parties of four or more, we will be able to customize your stay to include massage therapy, provided by a licensed massage therapist, facials by a licensed aesthetician, and many other exciting extras.
