OHLA Hotel Summer Camp

 

What is the OHLA Hotel Summer Camp?
The Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association (OHLA) Hotel Summer Camp is a 3-day/2-night high school program for junior and senior students looking for a career path, wanting to know more about the lodging/hospitality industry, and those who know this is a path they are interested in who want to learn more firsthand. Hotelier panels, Hospitality sessions, AHLEI Guest Service Gold Certification, tours, and evening activities.  

 

OHLA’s Education & Workforce Development Committee is excited to announce its first-ever OHLA Hotel Summer Camp!

During this intensive, fun, and interactive camp, students will stay at a hotel and experience: 

  • Hotel Industry Overview and Career Options
  • AHLEI Guest Service Gold Certification
  • Effective Communication Techniques
  • Sports Tourism and Event Planning
  • Tours of Hotels and Convention Center Properties 
  • Business Etiquette for Career Success 
  • Job Search Strategies Online

The hotel industry offers an unparalleled setting to meet people from all walks of life and to experience new adventures every day. Many exciting avenues are available to hotel employees to achieve their personal and professional goals!

The hotel industry career pathways include occupations within a variety of hotel departments, often with the same employer.

 

The most common hotel departments include:

  • Accounting
  • Executive Office
  • Food and Beverage
  • Human Resources
  • Lobby and Guest Services
  • Rooms
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Security, Engineering and Maintenance

Parking

 

 

There is ample parking for normal-sized passenger vehicles in the hotel/convention center garage. Please inform Cindy Sams before the camp if you need school bus parking.

When you arrive, please report to the hotel lobby for directions to the OHLA Hotel Summer Camp check-in table for camp materials and name tags. A secure storage area will be provided for participant luggage until the scheduled room check-in time.

The camp will begin promptly at 9:00 AM, so please plan to arrive by 8:30 AM to park and check-in for the camp before 9:00 AM.

Please note that breakfast is not provided on the first day of the camp.

 

Pricing

Student Registration: $450.00 / per pupil

Teacher Registration: $550.00 / per educator

What Your Registration Fee Covers

  • Double occupancy hotel rooms for students and single occupancy hotel rooms for adult school district staff chaperones
  • Meals included in the agenda
  • All program fees & materials

Please note there is an increased charge for students who are in a single room (limited availability).

What To Pack

Students are asked to dress in business casual while participating in hotel summer camp activities. Business casual may include khaki pants/skirts or jeans (without any fraying or holes) and a collared shirt or women's blouse. 

Hotel conference rooms can often be chilly, so students are encouraged to bring a light sweater or jacket. Other items to pack are listed below:

  • two business casual outfits in addition to the one worn on Wednesday 
  • Swimsuit, cover-up, and pool shoes
  • Comfortable shoes for tours; please avoid flip flops 
  • Toothbrush & toothpaste
  • Pajamas/sleepwear
  • two conservative, casual outfits for evening free time (optional)
  • Medical insurance card or a copy of the front and back of the card
  • Cash for incidentals such as soft drinks or snacks throughout the camp

Items available in the hotel room include toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, and soap) and a blow dryer.
